As a child I remember the pies and raisin bread my grandma made whenever we came for a visit. Every birthday in my house was a feast of our “favorite meal” and a special cake – each one of us had a different favorite. Vacations were planned around great food destinations before “foodie trips” were even popular. As we grew older, me and my siblings (7 of us) started working in our family restaurant. Making great food became a way to make a living as well, and we all took it seriously. While in college, I worked nights and weekends in the restaurant business to pay my way but loved every minute of it.
Along the way I learned a lot about how to make people happy with food and how to make food taste great. But I don’t think it was until I started my career in International Business that I was totally turned on to the full range of amazing flavors from around the world. While traveling and entertaining clients in fine restaurants, my passion for learning more about food and wine took off. The more I traveled, the more I was exposed to cuisine from around the world and various regions of our country. That’s when my passion for re-creating all those taste memories in my own home kitchen really took off. I realized that I could create just about any cuisine with the help of an excellent cookbook and solid culinary technique.
Eventually, juggling family and career became too much so I quit my career and took on the full time job of stay at home mom. As the kids got older, my thoughts turned to what my next career would be. Why not do something you love? So after two certifications from both the New York and Napa Valley campuses of the Culinary Institute of America; a King Arthur Flour baking course in Vermont and multiple culinary classes devoted to regional cuisine; and a Personal Chef certification from APPCA, I set off on my new career with Meals Made Simple.
My expertise comes from 30 plus years of cooking in restaurant kitchens and my own and a constant desire to learn more. But none of this really matters without a passion for cooking, respect for the food and where it comes from, and attention to detail. That’s what sets me apart – whether I am preparing simply, healthy comfort food or creative, gourmet meals.
Meals Made Simple is the culmination of everything I have learned and shared with family and friends over the years. I look forward to sharing that passion with you…
